The year was 1824 and a prominent local rancher has been murdered. Solving this pretended crime was the mission of more than 50 equestrians who participated in the Northeast Chapter of Backcountry Horsemen Murder Mystery Benefit Ride on October 30th.
By gathering clues and interviewing the suspects the riders were able to piece together the events and point out the guilty suspect.
A $50.00 Cash Prize, donated by Northern Outpost LLC, was awarded to Leah Burnell of Chewelah for the Best 1800’s era costume. $150.00 in various door prizes for participants were donated by The Inn at White Pine, a premier Bed and Breakfast located at Deer Lake.
Funds raised from this event will assist the Colville National Forest in receiving grant monies for the creation of a new staff position, the Volunteer Trail Coordinator. The person who fills this position will work closely with various recreational use group volunteers to organize and complete trail projects within the Forest.
Due to U. S. Forest Service budget cuts, a huge backlog of trail work has been created on National Forest and Wilderness lands where many equestrians enjoy riding. In order to prevent these trails from disappearing, it is important to step up and demonstrate support as a community, working together to keep these trails open.
